Daimler Empress Coupe - 1977 to 1979

They only made three 2-door Empresses. One fell off a dock into the Thames, leaving two, and this was one of the surviving two, so it was quite rare.

The coachwork was hand-made by Hooper in 1951. The leather armchairs were upholstered in horsehair and wadding. The motorcar had two cocktail cabinets in the rear, and the windows were electric.

There was no acceleration from the 2.5 litre 6 cylinder engine and pre-selector gearbox. Later 4-door Empresses had a 3.5 litre engine.

I bought it as a restoration project, but it only got partially completed.
