Honda Z - 1975

I bought it second hand, one year old, for £625.

Of course it was bright orange (they all were), so I had it resprayed in black. And had the bonnet modified for a scaled down Rolls type grille, intended as a send-up.

The 2 cylinder 570 c.c. air-cooled engine, was probably from a lawn mower or something. The road test report says 127 miles per gallon.

For the first few years it was quite nippy, but then it got tired, very tired. It would overheat, smoke came out from the bonnet, I'd sit there waiting for it to cool down, and then try again. It became so impossible, it couldn't even make it down the road to Sainsburys and back, so I got a shopping trolly instead, and shoved the Honda in the garden with a plant growing in it. I removed the Rolls type grille and hung it on the wall in the hall as a painting.
